The first step...

Hi. My name is Eva. And I am addicted to Facebook.

There, I said it. Of all the drugs I have tried in my life, Facebook is the only one that has me truly hooked. I check it when I wake up; I check it while I'm waiting at the bus stop; I check it before I go to sleep. I confess to spending hours browsing through profiles - some friends, some strangers - for no other reason than I'm nosy. Every photo that I, or someone else, takes is a potential new display picture; every funny comment, a potential status update...That awesome choc chip muffin I just ate was just SO DAMN GOOD that I had to share it with the world!! Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with this picture?!! For every time that I think about logging on, there is a semi-conscious part of me thinking that I have a huge problem. This isn't normal. This thing is taking over my life. Not only is it consuming my every thought (turning the most banal activities into supposedly high-interest 460-characters-or-less newsflashes), it is affecting my sleeping patterns, affecting my study motivation and making me a lazy friend. Yes, the vortex that is Facebook sucks me in so that I fend off sleep until the wee hours of the morning, and for what? So I can make a few funny comments on someone's page or chat to a person I barely know about bullshit because I'm bored and have nothing else better to do? Oh wait Eva, you do have something better to do - it's called SLEEP! And perhaps if you try doing that before 1am, you might not actually feel like an extra from Zombieland when you wake up for work the next day! As for the negative effects of Facebook on my study, well you can just ask one of the 1,028,768 members of the "I was doing my homework, then I ended up on Facebook" page.

The other fucked up result of being addicted to Facebook is, as i mentioned, being a lazy friend. It's similar to what the SMS has done to personal communication - allowed us to skimp on face-to-face contact and stopped us from making a phone call simply because it might be the quicker or easier option. Or maybe it's just because we are chicken shit and don't have the balls to open our mouths to say what we want to say knowing we will have to deal with an immediate or possibly confronting reaction. Facebook allows us to keep in touch with "friends" without really having to make any effort. It's especially effortless for someone like me who can touch-type at the speed of light...I can write HIHOWAREYOUHOPETOSEEYOUSOON in approximately 3 seconds, seemingly caring, but really I can't be fucked or apparently don't have the time to offer you a real conversation. That is just sad. And i don't like myself, or anyone else, for it. That is why Facebook has created such a mental disturbance for me. Facebook has turned me into a selfish, unmotivated sloth with under-eye bags the size of Trinidad & Tobago. So, in light of this fact, I have decided to conduct a personal experiment. I hypothesise that by deactivating Facebook for two weeks, I will, in that short time:

- feel healthier and gain more energy from sleeping more and not spending hours sitting on the couch

- get more study done because I won't be distracted by checking notifications and reading statuses proclaiming what people had for dinner or their inspirational quote for the day which was most likely stolen off some "Inspirational Quote of the Day" website

- become a better friend to those I do consider real friends, and pay less attention to people who do not matter

- and, most significantly, regain control of MY MIND, by eliminating unneccessary thoughts about Facebook, it's members, and anything else that may be vaguely related.

This is a serious experiment!! And I know, it's only for two weeks, but like I said, it's an experiment and all I'm interested in is seeing what happens in the two weeks after I click "DEACTIVATE". If anyone would like to join me in this endeavour, I say FUCK YEAH! I'm not trying to boycott Facebook, just taking control of what, for me, is an annoying addiction. When I begin this trial, you'll all know about it. Until then, my soon-to-be deactivated friends...

Love.

Watching Oz SYTYCD the other night, I almost jizzed in my pants watching Ivy & Phillipe do their thing on the piano...it was pure sex. It reminded me of my fave SYTYCD moment of all time (from the American version) - the hip hop dance by Sabra and Dominic to "Make it Work" by Neyo, choreography by Shane Sparks. Watching this kinda thing makes me wanna have a boyfriend. But not just any boy...a cute one that can dance. haha *sigh* Anyway check out the clip and prepare to get wet.

Cudder Love Pt. 2

I know it's easy to imagine, but it's easier to just do,
See if you can't do what you imagine,
Then what is imagination to you?
Just a waste of space in your brain,
To take the place of hate or things all the same,
Tell me your secrets--the things that make you tick,
I like when you talk because your voice is angelesque,
I want to kiss you on the space below your navalette,
The place that you keep neat; so moist like a towelette,
This will mark the day our minds and souls will connect,
Let's not forget the sex, my heart you can collect. - Kid Cudi

Thanks to Ossika for these lyrics from "Enter Galactic"...I stole it from his page :)

Cudder Love.

Yeah, I'm a little obsessed with Cudi at the moment. I found this cute shot of him with some chick his girlfriend Jamie Barrata which I posted earlier and I liked the shirts they are wearing...Didn't take long to figure out they are a Kid Cudi X Bape production. Can someone buy me one please??? :)

PINK!

Everything I want right now is PINK!!! Why is that?? P.S. I love how boys rock pink now - PINK, not "Salmon" haha...CUDI IS KING!

Just watch it...

Thanks to the Women's Studies class I'm taking this semester, I've been majorly interested in representations of women in the media lately, particularly in ads, and how different companies successfully or not-so-successfully market their products to the female. While blog-surfing I hit upon a site called Jezebel, a site for women about current fashion/celebrity/sex issues and one article really impressed me about Nike's latest campaign for its fitness clothing line. I have to admit, I have been a fan of Nike Women's campaigns for a while now. They always seem to get it right when it comes to linking qualities of strength, power and health to women - something other brands seem to fail at, or traditionally only associate with men. Their latest campaign features a bunch of top female athletes doing what they do best, with a major focus on ideas of "success", "strength" and "victory" - you won't see any skinny girls strutting around on catwalks or sexually pouting at the camera. This kind of campaign can appeal to any woman, and doesn't encourage a fantasy to be model-thin or that you are only worthy if you are beautiful. The focus is on doing your personal best and having a healthy body. It's a great message, nice one Nike! And very smart too, cuz now you've sucked us in to buying your product!! God damn you advertising genuises!

Above: Nike empowers.

FUN FOR THE EYES.

New Adidas Lookbook!

I love the new Adidas Women's Collection Lookbook! It features cool chicks like Whitney Port, Ciara, Agyness Deyn & Adrienne Bailon dancing and playing up for the camera in the cutest outfits!! Love Love Love. In class, we're studying representations of women in advertising and it's making me analyse shit like this at the moment...Props to Adidas for featuring a bunch of hot girls of all colours and attitudes...but they're still not exactly "real" girls are they? Would be nice to see some non-celebs with "real" bodies featured in their next campaign. What do you think?

Blog-loving.

Ok, so thanks to Mr Sandery's post on Facebook I have discovered this freakin' awesome music blog called One a Day which, as the title suggests, reviews one track a day entirely for the purpose of enlightening music-lovers such as myself. What makes this blog so different to others is that #1 - it is genre non-specific, so we're getting to listen to a bunch of stuff that is completely diverse, and #2 - the posts are actually very well written in a witty and casual way. Aaaand, they actually know their music shit so you can trust that whatever tracks get a mention on this blog will be good. I get highly excited when I find blogs like this :) Just to further blow my mind, their most recent post is on my current fave jam "Nothin' on You" by B.O.B & Bruno Mars!! This is the song I have been raving about for the last few days after I discovered a dude singing a crazy r&b cover of it on YouTube. THIS IS MY SHIT!! Amazing track. And if you wanna know more of my thoughts on it you might as well just read the review that One a Day has posted cuz it matches mine exactly. Bookmark this blog asap! And below you can check out the original film clip, plus that cover by UrbanGermany from Youtube (which is a cool version with sung verses written by the singer himself). Ok, I gotta jet cuz I'm busting for the toilet but have been putting it off so I can write this post...bladder explosion in 5...4...3...2...BYE!

Why, Pharrell? Why?

What the hell was Pharrell thinking?? The haircut? The face pubes?? The sexiness is gone :(

Thoughts for today.

If there was no such thing as ego, people could just be, rather than be-cause.

IT'S LIKE THAT UH.

Envy at the Promethean was off the chain last night!! Got to bust out my running man to "Every Little Step" by Bobby Brown. Twas an awesome awesome thing. Here's my old school swag for the night, i even had Cazal inspired clear glasses to go with it but I somehow lost them last night...people kept on trying them on and they disappeared. Although they only cost me like 10 bucks online so I'm not complaining!!
